Design and fabrication

Andy and Stuart have been racing with the Historic Racing Section of the VMCC since the early 1990s.

Andy, with his partner Yvonne, first entered a 700cc late 50s Royal Enfield into the Sidecar Championship, a highly competitive class dominated by experienced teams. Andy's innate riding ability and dogged determination and Yvonne's natural athletic skills, aptitude for purpose and personal survival techniques proved them well and enabled them to become one of the best teams in the class and also Championship winners. Andy also rode solos during most of this period but has in recent years concentrated specifically on the solos; currently he is racing on an Enfield in the 250cc Championship and in the Up-to 500cc Specials Class on a Seeley 7R.

Stuart began racing in 1992 on a BSA C15 in the well populated 250cc Class. He built the bike from a box of bits and invested much time and some money in developing what was generally perceived to be an uncompetitive machine. A burning desire to win was the primary motivation in Stuart's continually expanding and all consuming interest in BSA singles. In the Summer of 1998 Stuart won his first 250cc Championship race at Lydden in Kent and soon after that went on to win the Championship 3 years in succession. Although Stuart has dedicated himself to BSAs for such a long period when Norvil Motorcycles kindly offered him the opportunity to ride a 1956 Norton Dominator for them, he was more than delighted. After several months in construction and testing at meetings it is hoped that it will begin a full race season at the start of 2005.

Steelcraft Racing was founded in 1999 as part of the Steelcraft company.
